What a day of ups and downs… literally and figuratively.
My son got a new phone and while activating it he swapped my phone to his and mine quit working on the network. I didn’t know anything about it and all my maps were not working. The guys had said they were going to get gas. Turn right and catch up at the has station. I gave up on the phone and headed out. Soon I was out of town and didn’t see any gas stations. 10 miles later I tried calling. Nope, phone won’t do that either. Oh, boy… now what. I start getting very irritated on being left. Go through that and decide to enjoy the beautiful morning. I do but another 5 or more miles and no town I start wondering if I am on my own. Well, the sun is on my right so I am going north. I’ll just go find my way to Brattleboro VT and get one of those delicious Éclair’s at the Vermont Country Deli. In a bit I start hearing those guys talking on my hel.et comms so I know they are close. Mike was still filling up with gas. I let the group know what I thought about leaving and I didn’t think it was 20 mules down the road. Mike finished up and we were ready to leave and Scott’s BMW wouldn’t start.
Turns out his fob battery died. Somehow Darryl had the correct battery as a spare for something else. Mike has the same bike and also had a spare. He eventually got it swapped out. Then he tried to start the bike and it wouldn’t start. Looked like his bike battery was bad. He had a jump pack and it worked to get his bike started.
Just then Mike said my phone problems were because of my son’s phone. I told him he was probably correct and just then he gets a call from me! Except it was my son. I told him when Verizon opened to get this figured out. Call Mike if he needed me. Eventually after several stops due to Verizon needing information we got it fixed. Then we started looking for a battery for Scott’s bike. No luck. We listened to him start it and it sounded fine. It’s 3 yrs or 4 yrs old. Just getting a bit weak. Search was called off.
I lead off but now we had to change the route on the fly and they all turned out to be excellent. Took mote video of the towns and countryside today. We are in the mountains and it is very GREEN! I was wondering if our resident of Texas could handle it. We stopped after doing most of Crown Point Road over the Hawk mountains for a break. Scott made the comment that it was so green. He’couldn’t believe it! That road was wonderful as it was smooth pavement. Twisty, and beautiful. We came out of that and in a little while we decided to take the back way up to Brattleboro on Brattleboro rd. 45 to 50 mph sunny and cooler. Beautiful day and taking in the valleys and mountains as we went along the valley’s and over mountains.
Finally got to Brattleboro and I bought two Eclairs some cold seasoned green beans. Both were good. Sent Diana a pic of me eating one and within seconds she had called me and couldn’t believe that I would do that to her. She was with me on a trip when I discovered this place and she always wanted to go back.
We left there about 3 pm and due to some confusion we split the group as I wanted to take 9 east to 100 north as that is a wonderful road and it would take us all the way up to the motel hrs north.
Darryl went with me and we eventually got to the motel as it was getting dark at 740 pm. Great winding road with more great views of valley’s and mountains. Good pavement 98 percent of the time. Clouds moved in and the temp dropped. Around 6 pm we closed all the vents on our gear and I turned on my heated grips. The evening sun was soft and lit up the clouds and the peaks to the east of us. So much different than during the day. We both were glad to have taken the longer route otherwise we wouldn’t have seen it like that.
Arrived at the motel at almost nightfall.
Despite how the day started it turned into a very good day!
