Yesterday I put two bikes in the trailer and drove to near Lancaster PA with Darryl Jones. We had our Yamaha Super Tenere in tow. Spent the night at Mike Cox’s house. Scott Johnson a friend I met while coming down from Alaska rode up from Waco TX. We had a nice evening visiting.
This morning I backed the trailer out and we off loaded the bikes. And it would seem that we should be on our way soon… right? Nope… Mike, Darryl and I have all converted to Cardo helmet communications and when we powered up we all connected. Scot was using SENA and we messed around for a while and finally gave up. He was happy though as he had his favorite play lists going all day. We could see him bobbing and swaying his head all day long.
Back to getting on the road. Unfortunately I had left the key on for some reason while trying to get comms. Yep, bike barely turned over and wouldn’t start. I didn’t drain the battery all the way as you need some voltage to fire off the electronic fuel injectors. We pushed the bike to the road and they gave me a quick push and I popped the clutch while in 2nd gear. Bike sputtered to life. Off we went.
My GoPro was on and I looked down at my phone in preview and got a surprise… my GoPro wasn’t charging! I looked at the power source mounted on the bars. Ahhhhhh, I hadn’t turned it on. Duh, all fixed. A good part of the day was taking back roads and trying to go north while missing the towns. Always amazes me when I am out East and I see these old row houses and other buildings almost on the road. Many were built before the roads were paved and wide. So they are very close. Interesting to see the old architecture too.
A lot of the countryside reminds me of Wisconsin. Eventually we got into the Pocono Mountains and the scenery got bigger. So many trees everywhere and even in the beginning of Sept it is soooo green. As we got into New York some trees were starting to drop some leaves.
It got hotter but low 80’s and not humid. About 1 pm clouds came in and we stopped for a break. We came out of the gas station and the clouds to the west were very dark! Darryl looked on his phone and confirmed that there was indeed rain coming from the west… so we skedaddled out and to the NE. Unfortunately the humidity went up but we never got rained on.
Not much to video today. I got a new phone and I worked on getting that connected to the Gopro. All good now. Now I have to figure out how to get my 10 yr old drone connected as DJI updated the App and it doesn’t support my original Mavic 1.0. I have a possible solution but that’s for tomorrow evening.
I am using GoPro Quik to upload all my video and it makes a short out of them and my pics too! I will be attaching a link from them here… if I can make it work.
Nice weather, nice roads, nice scenery that was the theme of the day. A lot of it is slow at 45 mph. Even in the country… and of course we mostly obeyed the posted limits… because there are a lot of cars/people around here. Towards the end of the day in the mountains it thinned out… until we came out of the mountains and crossed the Hudson River. I didn’t mind going slow in traffic as that gave me a chance to look around at the Hudson River and the cool bridge that crossed it. I was happy to see the American flag displayed from it. We are staying in Hyde tonight about a mile or less from the FDR Library.
Hopefully no rain tomorrow and we go through Brattleboro VT tomorrow and I plan on stopping and getting another of those Choclate Eclair’s again! Mmmmmm.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention… Mike rook us across a covered bridge built in the 1830’s!!! It is shown the the first link.

This one below shows a much better shot of the large flag hanging from the bridge structure.
