Day 29 Redding California. Miles:40

I stayed in the cool AC in the hotel room most of the day. I was up at 6 am. Wrote up the post for day 28 and then got down to breakfast just as they were ready to close. They let me slide in. Then back to the room and relaxed. Caught up on some reading and thinned out some emails and answered texts. One of my Alaska compadre’s had a Russell Day Long saddle. He had been thinkingof getting it reworked or selling it. He texted me that morning that he had decided to sell it As he liked his Corbin better… except his Corbin was slippery. I told him I had Corbin that wasn’t slippery and not using it. How much for the RDL saddle? I had sat on it and it was very comfortable for me. He said, how about a trade? Sure… but did that saddle have any identifying numbers on it. It did and he sent them to me.
Met Bill at lunch time. He left to go back to work and I hopped on my bike and went 25 minutes north to RDL’s shop. A young man named Wyatt was at the counter and I explained either I needed a seat or I had a friend that had on for sale. Could he tell me the dimensions of the original owner to see if it would work for me. Probably… what’s the number. I gave it to him and a few minutes later he comes back with a folder and says… it was built for a guy who was 6’3” with a 32″ in seam and weighed 265#. I couldn’t believe it. No wonder that seat felt comfortable as I am 6’3” 265# 32″ inseam. So a trade is in my future. Stopped by the Sun Dial bridge in Redding on the way back but not for long. It’s hot in Redding! Went over to Bills home in the evening for an enjoyable visit. I asked Bill to help me figure out how to get to Leggett tomorrow as I didn’t want to take major routes. A few minutes later he was done and it was a good route. Went back to the hotel as I wanted to be out of there early before it got hot. I knew it would be comfortable by the coast.
So, I’m chilling and getting ready to turn the light out when I get a text from Loraine with a picture. She’s smiling and with a group of ladies. I text back… who are they? She said look closer. Turns out she flew to her sisters place in Petaluma to surprise me. Get your butt down here. I said ok, but I’m going along the coast and it might be two days. I am not traveling down the central valley in the heat.
I asked her if she wanted to surprise me why did she send me the text? Because you had been talking about going to Lassens volcanic Park (which is just 45 min east of Redding) and I didn’t want you to change your mind and head east if I flew out here. Ok…
So out went my light as 5 am was only 5 hrs and 23 minutes away.
